transcending barriers between a variety of genres, Blood was the potent 2009 release from the exceptional duo of Jim Matheos (Fate's Warning) and Kevin Moore (Chroma Key, ex- Dream Theater).

Along with Moore and Matheos, Blood features Porcupine Tree drummer Gavin Harrison throughout, and a guest appearance by Opeth's Mikael Ã?kerfeldt on Stockholm.

White Willow - Terminal Twilight (cd)

White Willow, one of Norway's most successful Progressive Rock bands of recent times, return after a five year absence with Terminal Twilight.

Creating a distinctively mysterious Scandinavian sound that encompasses mellotron-drenched retro prog, gothic folk, art pop and post-rock, the band's ambitious compositions combine sophisticated structures and harmonies with powerful playing and uncluttered production.

Main songwriter Jacob Holm-Lupo is joined by fellow band members, Sylvia Skjellestad, Mattias Olsson (Anglagard), Lars Fredrik Froislie (Wobbler's vintage synth maestro), Ketil Einarsen (Jaga Jazzist) and Ellen Andrea Wang. No-Man's Tim Bowness guests on the poignant Kansas Regrets.

Soaring Hackett-esque solos collide with demented Crimson-influenced riffs counterbalanced by compelling and ethereal song sections.

UMA - Hymn To Undiscovered Land (cd)

Estonian duo UMA's second album, Hymn To Undiscovered Land, is a mesmerising and inventive merging of atmospheric European Jazz and electronic influences, that highlights the evolving abilities of guitarist Robert Jürjendal and trumpet player Aleksei Saks.

Recorded and mixed by celebrated percussion player Andi Pupato (from ECM band, Nik Bärtsch's Ronin), who performs throughout, the album also features an evocative vocal contribution from No-Man's Tim Bowness.

The Opium Cartel - Night Blooms (cd)

Richard Barbieri - Stranger Inside (CD)

Following the artistic and critical success of his 2005 debut album Things Buried, Stranger Inside further develops Barbieri's unique approach to texture, harmony and rhythm.

Writing and producing the album himself, the album includes contributions from long-term creative partners Steve Jansen (mixing/co-arranging), Steven Wilson (mastering), Gavin Harrison (drums) and the legendary double bass player, Danny Thompson (currently enjoying renewed acclaim as part of the reformed Pentangle).

Although instrumental in nature, most tracks feature radical and atmospheric manipulations of the sampled voices of Tim Bowness and Suzanne Barbieri.

'Tiny Ghosts' is the official debut CD release from Rhinoceros, aka Birmingham-based multi-instrumentalist, Gramophone percussionist and No-Man collaborator, David Picking.

Featuring a distinctive contribution from vocalist Tim Bowness and the turntable skills of DJ Log, the album combines the creaking atmospherics of Papa M with the cut-and-paste aesthetics of DJ Shadow to create a quiet gem of organic, reflective electronica.

A loose collective centred around the nucleus of Peter Chilvers and reclusive marimba/vibraphone virtuoso Jon Hart, A Marble Calm's debut release is an ambitious collection combining textural instrumentals and drifting songscapes. Featuring Burning Shed regulars Tim Bowness, Sandra O'Neill and Theo Travis and clocking in at 74 minutes long, the album distinctively blends influences from Contemporary Classical (Gorecki/Pärt), ECM Jazz, Sigur Rós and the ambient songwriting of Sylvian, Eno and No-Man.
