David Sylvian & Robert Fripp - The First Day (cd)

1993's Sylvian and Fripp's The First Day surprised many with its hard-hitting sound.

Perhaps closer in spirit to the mid-1990s King Crimson to come than Sylvian's past work, the album boldly fused the accessible and the experimental, and in the exquisite Bringing Down The Light offered the first recorded example of Fripp's contemporary Soundscapes approach.

David Sylvian & Robert Fripp - Damage (cd)

The 2001 David Sylvian mix of Sylvian and Fripp's powerful live album from 1994 Damage.

David Sylvian - Blemish (cd)

David Sylvian's 2003 solo album Blemish represented a radical departure for the former Japan star.

Pitting Sylvian's distinctive croon against a back drop of glitch electronica and occasional free jazz (courtesy of Derek Bailey), Blemish made up for it's lack of accessibility with its fearless invention and lyrical honesty.

David Sylvian - Manafon (cd)

Along with Blemish, Manafon is the most controversial and challenging album in David Sylvian's long and varied career.

A brave fusion of avant-garde classical, free jazz and abstract, poetic torch song, this isn't music for the fainthearted.

An underrated entry in the great man's catalogue.

David Sylvian - Secrets Of The Beehive (cd)

David Sylvian's third solo release from 1987 was his most organic and timeless to date.
