rajna - duality (cd)
Following 2007's acclaimed World Music tinged, Khvarena, Duality is French ambient gothic band Rajna's latest offering.
Creatively and accessibly combining elements of pop, sacred, ambient and ethnic musics, Duality features guest appearances from Tim Bowness (No-Man), Brice Oma ( Omasphere ), Stefano Panunzi and Stephen Bennett, amongst others.
By turns, enchanting and ethereal, percussive and primal, Duality represents Rajna's most ambitious release to date.
Richard Barbieri - Stranger Inside (CD)
Following the artistic and critical success of his 2005 debut album Things Buried, Stranger Inside further develops Barbieri's unique approach to texture, harmony and rhythm.
Writing and producing the album himself, the album includes contributions from long-term creative partners Steve Jansen (mixing/co-arranging), Steven Wilson (mastering), Gavin Harrison (drums) and the legendary double bass player, Danny Thompson (currently enjoying renewed acclaim as part of the reformed Pentangle).
Although instrumental in nature, most tracks feature radical and atmospheric manipulations of the sampled voices of Tim Bowness and Suzanne Barbieri.
rhinoceros - tiny ghosts (cd)
'Tiny Ghosts' is the official debut CD release from Rhinoceros, aka Birmingham-based multi-instrumentalist, Gramophone percussionist and No-Man collaborator, David Picking.
Featuring a distinctive contribution from vocalist Tim Bowness and the turntable skills of DJ Log, the album combines the creaking atmospherics of Papa M with the cut-and-paste aesthetics of DJ Shadow to create a quiet gem of organic, reflective electronica.
alias grace - storm blue evening (cdr)
Featuring hauntingly melancholy songs adorned with constantly shifting atmospheric arrangements, Alias Grace's second album 'Storm Blue Evening' develops further the intimate and beguiling nature of their charmed debut album and captures perfectly the maturing writing style of Irish singer-songwriter Sandra O'Neill and multi-instrumentalist Peter Chilvers. The album also features cameo appearances from Rob Jackson, Myke Clifford, Mike Bearpark and Tim Bowness.
alias grace - embers (cdr)
Debut album by the songwriters with the atmospheric touch, first released in 1998. The album also features 'Talk Simple', a reworking of the lyric of No-Man's 'Tulip', and a guest appearance by Tim Bowness.
a marble calm - surfacing (cd)
A loose collective centred around the nucleus of Peter Chilvers and reclusive marimba/vibraphone virtuoso Jon Hart, A Marble Calm's debut release is an ambitious collection combining textural instrumentals and drifting songscapes. Featuring Burning Shed regulars Tim Bowness, Sandra O'Neill and Theo Travis and clocking in at 74 minutes long, the album distinctively blends influences from Contemporary Classical (Gorecki/Pärt), ECM Jazz, Sigur Rós and the ambient songwriting of Sylvian, Eno and No-Man.
"Sandra O'Neill's singing on Gillian Welch's "I Dream a Highway" is heart-meltingly beautiful. I think this song deserves a new category - something like 'future country'. More, soon, please!" - Brian Eno
peter chilvers - he wrote this (cdr)
An album of fretless bass and chapman stick compositions from the Henry Fool / Samuel Smiles member, Peter Chilvers, with guest appearances from Tim Bowness and Sandra O'Neill.
