Back in print, and now in its fourth pressing "Ghosts on Magnetic Tape" remains the best selling Bass Communion release, and is rated by some people (including SW himself) to be one of his best albums, becoming quietly influential in the experimental music scene. Ghosts is a 5 part suite of dark organic textural music, using intricately manipulated recordings of acoustic instruments and the now familiar Bass Communion trademark ghostly crackle of old vinyl records. Inspired by Electronic Voice Phenomena recordings, the album has a spectral and eerie quality. As with the previous edition the main album is augmented with a second CD containing a full length reinterpretation by Andrew Liles that takes the original into even more creepy realms. Beautifully recorded within the natural ambience of Laboratorio de Arte Alameda in Mexico City on 27th Feb 2008, this is a collaboration between Steven Wilson on guitar/laptop, and the noise / improv group PIG. Originally released on vinyl only by Important Records in 2008.

Following a series of vinyl editions of the previously released bass communion albums Ghosts on Magnetic Tape, Bass Communion II and Haze Shrapnel, Tonefloat presents its first release containing new (solo) recordings by Steven Wilson's ongoing experiments with drones and ambient music, and sounds in general. Litany is taken from new bass communion recordings using choral/vocal samples and looping techniques. These experiments may lead to a full album at some stage, but in the meantime about 23 minutes of work in progress will be out late july as a 2-track 12inch EP.

The ep comes in a stylish bass communion cardboard type sleeve designed by Carl Glover and will be available in a limited edition of 1000 copies on black 180 grams vinyl. The coloured vinyl version has now sold out.

Bass Communion is the name SW gives to recordings he has been making since 1994 in an ambient and/or electronic vein. Most of the pieces are experiments in texture and are generated from processing recordings of real instrumental performances. This is the first CD from 1998 including a 25 minute piece based on Robert Fripp's soundscapes.
