Penguin Cafe Orchestra - A History (4cd Box Set)

A wonderful compilation spanning the entire history of this much loved cult collective, this is an updated standardised version of the deluxe long box edition of A History.

An accompanying booklet contains sleeve notes from Arthur Jeffes (the son of late band leader Simon Jeffes), reminiscing about his personal experiences of growing up surrounded by the creative maelstrom of PCO activity.

All of the tracks were remastered under the watchful eye of Arthur, who has recently continued the group's eclectic musical legacy with his own Penguin Cafe project.

Various Artists - Zabriskie Point - Original Soundtrack (triple vinyl)

A remarkable mixture of abstract sound sculpture, solo-guitar experiments, psychedelic rock, old-time country ballads and 1950s jukebox corn, this 3 LP re-release of the soundtrack to the classic 1970 countercultural statement from Michelangelo Antonioni includes four bonus tracks apiece from Jerry Garcia and Pink Floyd.

Pink Floyd's contributions to the album, recorded after the release of Ummagumma, hint at aspects of the lush, refined soundscapes in evidence on the band's subsequent releases, Atom Heart Mother and Meddle.

The album also includes half an hour of previously unheard Jerry Garcia music. In Garcia's variations on Love Scene, his purely solo guitar voice possesses a serene confidence and luminous purity unlike anything else in his canon.

andrew phillips - home (mp3 download)

A highly atmospheric ambient guitar soundtrack with sharp edges and a sense of brooding melancholy, award nominated composer Andrew Phillips's score for the BBC's acclaimed adaptation of JG Ballard's short story 'The Enormous Space' (broadcast as 'Home') gets a welcome release via the Burning Shed download store.

mike figgis - hotel soundtrack (cd)

Acclaimed director and gifted trumpeter/composer Mike Figgis makes his Burning Shed debut with the enigmatic and haunted soundtrack to his revolutionary movie, Hotel.

Featuring contributions from legendary drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, the album additionally contains a devastating 10 minute collaboration with Skunk Anansie's Skin.

hugh hopper and matt howarth - the stolen hour (cd)

Gloriously atmospheric and intense, 2004's 'The Stolen Hour' was a superb extension of Hugh Hopper's 'Jazzloops' series of explorations written to accompany the distinctive imagery of comic book artist, Matt Howarth.

Assisted by, amongst others, Robert Wyatt (cornet, voice), John Marshall and Didier Malherbe, Hopper updated the Jazz-tinged Minimalist looping he initially developed in the 1960s, evoking the innovative spirit of early Soft Machine, while simultaneously suggesting new possibilities for his music.

chroma key - graveyard mountain home (special edition)

Graveyard Mountain Home is an eclectic and cinematic musical exploration from Kevin Moore (aka Chroma Key), a founding member of progressive metal legends Dream Theater. Recorded in Istanbul, Turkey, where Moore now lives, this third release from Chroma Key is entirely different from Moore's previous musical work, and was created as an alternate audio track to a surreal educational film from the 1950s.

The result is a unique approach to album making that incorporates influences from Minimalism, Trip Hop, Progressive, Singer Songwriter and Sample-based musics, and further establishes Moore as a truly visionary contemporary artist.

kevin moore - ghost book (cd)

Shortly after moving to Turkey to begin work on what would become Graveyard Mountain Home, Kevin Moore was approached by author Dogu Yucel to compose the soundtrack to a film adaptation of his comedy/horror novel, Okul (School).

For what has since been recognised as a landmark in Turkish cinema, Kevin created an evocatively understated and atmospheric score that firmly hinted at the musical directions Graveyard Mountain Home would develop even further.
