The Relatives

Anglo-Dutch band the Relatives formed in the late 1980s, when Jack Monck and Willem Jan Droog met in London.

Both had been involved in and influenced by the UK's Canterbury scene bands. Jack played in Delivery with the Miller brothers and Pip Pyle, collaborated with members of Henry Cow and worked with the legendary Syd Barrett, while Willem had led the band Slipover in Holland.

Trans Europ Connection was recorded between September 2006 and May 2007 and features a combination of original songs and instrumentals.

The Relatives' eclectic and personal style, combines elements of jazz, pop and latin flavours.

Combining adventurous Canterbury and Jazz-tinged excursions with the rhythmic intensity of Minimalism, Monck’s recent songs make for an ideal vocally led companion piece to Hugh Hopper’s Jazzloops series.

Originally recorded in 1995 with additional vocal overdubs and mixing in 2004, Free Floor Show and Hotel Life find Jack Monck in collaboration with Henry Cow/Ex Wise Heads reeds player Geoff Leigh.

A unique blend of programmed rhythms and free-flowing instrumentation.
