Liverpool based band of souls Anathema have been together just short of a decade, bursting onto the scene with an already huge army of devotees. It was not long before they were snapping at the heels of such luminaries as Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride in order to claim their rightful place at the heart of cutting edge of Doom Metal. Anathema's career has been action packed from the off, signing to Peaceville in 92, they released the now infamous Crestfallen EP, hotly followed by debut album Serenades, produced by Hammy himself. With the album riding high in all the metal charts a tour with Cannibal Corpse soon followed. The video for the track Sweet Tears was in constant rotation on MTV's Headbangers Ball, culminating in a one off Headbangers Ball Peaceville showcase featuring label mates At The Gates and My Dying Bride.

The Silent Enigma was originally released in the summer of 95 and is the first release which sees guitarist Vincent Cavanagh take over the vocal duties. Vincent's style pushes the possibilities for Anathema onwards and upwards, with a scope and breath beyond his years. Recorded at Academy with Mags, (already infamous for his work with MDB) producing, the album resonates with atmospheric melody. Lauded by the metal press and achieving prominent chart positions in the metal scene, Anathema really had arrived.
