Welcome to Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin's online store. Here you can legally download the entire Stewart / Gaskin back catalogue of 41 tracks originally released between 1981 and 1991. Individual songs or whole albums can be downloaded. ('The Big Idea' CD is also available via mail order.) Revenue from these sales goes directly to the musicians with no record company involvement.
This store is operated by Dave & Barbara's colleagues Burning Shed, a UK online label and store operated by artists for artists. You may see a 'small transaction surcharge' fee added to your purchase - Burning Shed explain: "Our bank charges us a fixed amount for each credit card transaction. We absorb the cost of this for typical transactions, such as CD purchases. However, for orders totalling less than £3.00 GBP, we apply a small surcharge of £0.25 GBP to the order. This way we can avoid repeatedly charging you with a hidden cost, and ensure that more of the money that you spend goes to the artist."
(Technical note: all songs are available in a choice of high-quality mp3 and mp4 file formats, both of which will play on an Apple iPod. Mp4 (also known as .m4a and AAC, the audio format used by Apple's iTunes store) sounds virtually identical to CD. The LAME-encoded mp3 files are also very good quality and their smaller size makes them quicker to download - another advantage is they'll take up less space on your player. Audiophiles will be able to discern a very slight difference in sound quality between the two formats: Dave Stewart says that the mp4s have a slightly 'creamier' sound than the mp3s, but is satisfied that both are of very decent listening quality. How do I place an order?Browse the titles available from the menu items on the left. When you see a title you'd like to buy, click buy. When you've added all the titles you want, go to checkout, and follow the instructions. How long will my order take to arrive?Typical delivery times: We send orders by Airmail. if you did not pay for postal insurance there is no tracking number. What should I do if my order goes missing?If your order hasn't arrived 28 days after we posted it, please email orders@burningshed.com.Until 28 days have passed there is nothing we can do to trace any parcel. How do I order downloads?You'll need to create a downloading account before buying any downloads. This is free, and takes less than a minute. On the side of each store page, there's a box headed 'Downloads'. Click 'Sign In', and follow the instructions. Once you have an account created, just add downloads to your shopping basket as normal. Once you've purchased a download, you can download the files for up to 24 hours. What are VAT charges?Burning Shed are a VAT registered company and have to charge 17.5% VAT (Value Added Tax) on any items shipped to the European Community (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom).
