64 Spoons - Landing On A Rat Column (cd)

Flying in the face of late 1970s fashion, North London's 64 Spoons (now legendary, of course) produced a sophisticated fusion of Jazz Rock, Canterbury, Funk and Pop influences in an era smitten with Post Punk minimalism and streamlined, hook-heavy, simplicity.

The band's complex arrangements and gently humorous lyrics, combined with stunning solos and surprisingly sweet and soulful melodies, led to the creation of an original and very English music that provided an artistic springboard for the highly talented likes of Jakko M. Jakszyk and Ted Emmett.

Fans of artists such as Frank Zappa, Brand X, Hatfield & The North and Allan Holdsworth should find much to like in the Spoons quirky mix of whimsical tunes and precocious playing.
